We are pleased to offer local families affordable child care with the Province’s $10 a Day Child Care Prototype Program.
Effective April 1, seven out of nine SSCS child care programs have been accepted as $10 a Day ChildCareBC Centres. This is great news for Sea to Sky families as it helps make child care more affordable in our communities.
The $10 a Day ChildCareBC Program is part of a prototype program executed by the Province of BC to address the rising cost of child care and to pave the way to introduce universal child care. Families will be offered child care at a reduced cost, regardless of household income. See Fee Schedule
A total of 164 SSCS child care spaces (12 in Pemberton and 152 in Squamish) were eligible to participate in the program. Below is a list of our new $10 a Day ChildCareBC Centres:
- Dandelions and Dragonflies
- Valleycliffe Out of School Care
- Mamquam Out of School Care
- Brackendale Out of School Care
- Pemberton Out of School Care
- Squamish Out of School Care (also applies to full day daycare during school breaks)
- Garibaldi Highlands Out of School Care (also applies to full day daycare during school breaks)
Families who are currently registered in these child care programs will be automatically registered for the $10 a Day ChildCareBC Program and moved to full-time registration in September 2022.
Eligibility requirements for the prototype program excluded half day preschool programs and programs that had been in operation for less than 2 years, so our Garibaldi Highlands preschool-age program and Brackendale preschool-age program are not included in the $10 a Day ChildCareBC Program.
If a spot in one of the $10 a Day ChildCareBC Centres opens up we will notify families currently enrolled in one of our non-participating child care programs and/or families currently registered on our waitlist.
